Week 7 - English 110.

This week is short for us, and the next two weeks will be, too, due to online conferences I'll be attending. Today was screwed up due to the storm that came through, so I will not meet with the 9am class (campus opened late), but I plan to record my class session with the 3pm, so I'll shoot that recording out to both classes. Here's what's going to be covered: An introduction to Large Project 2 and Group 2. Large Project 1 and Group 1 aren't due until midnight February 28; however, most students are caught up with those elements, so I'm comfortable introducing the next activities. Large Project 2 asks you to answer the question "How Can I Make the World a Better Place?" You'll research the answer using interviews and surveys; these are primary sources. Journal Prompt: Do you advocate for yourself? Give an example. How comfortable do you feel asking for help, from teachers or tutors or librarians?

We're conducting peer workshop and optional writing conferences this week. Here are the details: The peer workshop can be found in the Large Project 1 tab in Blackboard - simply upload or link to your draft and then give WWW/TAG feedback to at least one classmate. The optional writing conferences may occur in the classroom during regular class times or over the phone/email. However, to earn a bonus point, students should read a passage of their draft aloud to Sybil either in-person or via voicemail on her Google Voice number or office phone. Once students have read the passage aloud, they should declare their bonus point in the Large Project 1 tab with the writing conference quiz. The idea of reading something aloud is to show students that sometimes conducting that sort of "nerdy" activity will allow them to hear their own errors, etc. The bonus point rewards the practice ...

We did not have in-person class Monday, February 7. Wednesday, February 9: Prompt: Are you open to feedback? What do you typically want feedback on when it comes to projects and papers? Why? What do you feel comfortable giving feedback to classmates on? Why? The My Grades tab has been updated. Please check your feedback, especially if you see the "Read Feedback" label on any assignments. (See image below to find feedback.) Heads up on the next few weeks - look at schedule.  Next week, we'll conduct peer workshop online. In-person attendance for that is not required, but you may want to use the computers in our lab? We'll also conduct optional writing conferences.
