What Have I Learned?

What have I learned about taking my own classes this summer?

  1. One does run out of steam. It's not like I completely don't care anymore, but my effort level has decreased. I find that I am trying to do the minimum required in the discussion boards, while still learning something and attempting to sound engaged and sassy.
  2. I rarely return to the discussion boards after I post. Yes, I should go back and read what my classmates have to say, but I typically do not rush to do that. And when I go back, I read what people said in response to me and then maybe a few more posts after that...
  3. I like to work ahead because the deadlines loom there in the distance; I don't want to find myself scrambling to finish something at the last minute - this might be one major difference between my students and me. I am not a procrastinator, and these two classes have emphasized that part of me big time.
  4. I'm fairly certain I've been mansplained in at least one discussion board post, if not more.
  5. I would like to have the readings on paper, in a spiral-bound book form. Yes, I have printed off the schedule.
  6. I love that in the CC Certification course, the quizzes can be taken over and over, and we get redos on the assignments if we miss something. Also: They use easy-to-follow rubrics!
  7. Let's end on a positive: I am looking for ways to make sure this knowledge sticks, so I am thinking about all the concepts in both classes insofar as how they can help me teach, etc.
If I'm feeling this way about two courses that I LIKE, I can not imagine how my students must feel if they see my course as unnecessary to their education.

*And because I'm up early reading about CC Licenses:
