Day 1 / Week 1 - Spring 2022

No mask mandate (yet!?😬), and it was nice to see students' FACES today after starting three semesters with only eyeballs. It was weird AND cool all at once. {And maybe slightly dangerous?}

Okay, so the journal entry for English 110 on this first day is a choice between responding to the Peter Elbow quote or answering whether you are a writer or not and why. These questions are better explained in the detailed part of our schedule (at the end of the syllabus - look online if you miss class today).

By the time I see ya'll next week, please complete two exercises in the First Batch of Exercises (Chapter 1) and the Beginning of the Semester Reflection. These items can be completed on paper; I'll email students on Friday (January 13) with documents they can print and fill out.

Ungrading Nugget #1.  #Ungrading, for me, is a theory. The practice looks very different for each teacher, whether they are teaching k-12 or at a university. {The practice is a privilege for some, as I acknowledge that as a full-timer, I'm allotted more freedom than a part-time teacher.} The practice looks very different depending on discipline, too.
