End of Week 5 in English 110.

FEEDBACK DAY - WOOT WOOT!?!

Now that I've switched up how we give feedback to one another in all of my classes - using TAG feedback instead of proofreading, etc. - it's more fun for me and the students. Okay, I'm only guessing that it's more fun/easier for students, but in the past, I think they've struggled with that "duty" - to put on some sort of nerdy hat and find spelling/punctuation errors when they didn't feel confident in that ability.

They ARE readers, however, and that makes them perfect candidates for the TAG feedback angle.

So, in English 110, a draft of Large Project 1 was due today. We used a discussion board in Blackboard Ultra to share the links or attachments of those drafts, and then students gave TAG feedback to at least two classmates.

Some humans still needed to give feedback as part of Group Zero, so it was a massive feedbacking sort of class session!

{One student vocally said they didn't have a draft. I asked the class what our response would be to this student, and we collectively said it was okay. The student started to give us reasons/excuses, and I shushed them. I said, "We don't care," some giggles; I continued: "I mean, we love you, but we don't care what the reason is. Just get to it when you can." I could kind of feel the tension from that student and others lift a bit. So, then I said, "I do not want this class to be stressful. It should be easy." This message displays my evolution from hard-ass to hippie, for sure.}

It was lovely for me to give feedback while they were giving feedback, towards the end of class time, and I reminded them to look at the feedback they receive, decide whether to use it to revise their project or not, and then upload - if necessary - a FINAL draft to that same workshop spot before they self-assess next week. I will take everyone through the self-assessment process next week; it's fairly simple, but I can do a quick tutorial.

Students should also work on Group 1 (and Group Zero, if they are behind) this weekend. I will update the Gradebook with Group Zero stuff tomorrow or Friday.

My answer: #1 / #3
